A roundtable discussion was held on NBC Television in Namibia during a special edition programme of News Journal to highlight the work of the United Nations in Namibia and reflect on the 70th milestone Anniversary. Windhoek International School hosted a UN Day Assembly on Thursday 22nd October 2015. With 550 students between the age group of 12 – 18 years attended the assembly, the auditorium was jam packed. The aim of the assembly was to provide the students with background information on the United Nations, the UN’s role in Namibia’s independence and highlighting the UN70 theme of youth, development and poverty. The 23rd October 2015 marks the global celebration of the 70th Birthday anniversary of the United Nations. This serves as an opportunity to reflect and look back on the UN’s history as well as take stock of its enduring achievements during the past 70 years.
The UN70 Campaign has commenced at the UN House in Klein Windhoek and preparations are underway to mark this remarkable day. To raise public awareness for the day and to highlight the work of the UN, UNIC Windhoek embarked on a public information campaign for UN70. The UNIC Windhoek team embarked on a poster campaign for UN70. The posters reflect the global challenges which the United Nations has addressed in areas of the environment, peace and security, humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping to mention a few.
