@UNNamibia Flash #floodingwithfacts for the International Day of Disaster Reduction

iddr-a4-poster_edited-1With the persistent drought impacting all aspects of life in Namibia as well as the risk of flash flooding associated with it, the United Nations System in Namibia in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Namibia is carrying out the Flash #FloodingwithFacts campaign on social media.

The educational and interactive campaign kick started on 7 October and will run through the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR), commemorated each year on 13 October. This International Observance aims ‘to raise awareness of how people are taking action to reduce their risk to disasters’.

This year, the Government of the Republic of Namibia will commemorate the IDDR under the theme “Live to Tell: Raising Awareness and Reducing Mortality” at an event in the Kunene Region, a region that has been harshly impacted by the drought over the last six years and the region is also vulnerable to other hazardous epidemics such as Cholera.
