The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Windhoek and the University of Namibia are signing an internship letter of agreement on Monday, 26 June 2017. In line with SDG 17 ‘Partnerships for the Goals’, UNIC Windhoek is partnering with tertiary institutions to empower the future leaders of tomorrow.

UNESCO will be conducting Regional Trainings of Education Officers on the use of the Kopana Community of Practise (this falls under our UNESCO/China Funds-in-Trust (CFIT) Project which aims at “Capacity Development for Quality Teacher Education in Namibia”. Trainings will occur in all regions and will be done alongside NUST, NAMCOL and UNAM and from 26 June-11 Aug.

UNIC Windhoek in partnership with the Model United Nations (MUN) UNAM Chapter is hosting a mock simulation of the General Assembly at the UN House. Tertiary level students will represent various countries as delegates as they debate the topic, “The Role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Modern World, particularly in regards to Africa.”

The World Food Programme (WFP) Five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP 2017-2022) for Namibia will officially come into action on 1 July 2017.

There are a few international observances this week including International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (26 June), United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture (26 June), Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day (27 June), International Day of the Tropics (29 June), International Asteroid Day (30 June) and International Day of Cooperatives (1 July).
